The 0.5 mile reach of Huntington Beach Channel (D01) from Atlanta Avenue to Indianapolis Avenue was improved to a rectangular (vertical wall), soft-bottom channel to convey the 100-yr storm discharge for this area of Huntington Beach. Steel sheet piles were constructed along both sides of the channel as part of the flood control channel improvements.
J.F. Shea, Inc. was awarded the contract in April of 2003. The construction was completed on April 29, 2004 for a final cost of $3,062,339.48.
